Cultural Heritage Digital
In the course of the one-year project, historical maps, city and landscape views from the 16th to 19th centuries from atlases and printed works from the various areas of the collections at the University of Graz will be made accessible to an international public as part of Austria's cultural heritage. The holdings will be digitized, formally indexed in the library catalog and presented via the repository unipub (Special Collections | DIGITAL) already available at the University Library as well as in parallel in Europeana . The Special Collections are part of a project team consisting of the partner institutions of the University of Graz: University Library, University Archives, University Museums, Institute of Linguistics and Centre for Information Modelling.
The collections can be found on unipub under Digi | Cultural Heritage Digital.
DiTAH - Project 16th century
In the Special Collections, a project group has come together to examine the approximately 13,000 books from the 16th century that are kept here. All bibliographic data is collected, the "object-specific characteristics" are elicited and evaluated in terms of book history. All data will be fed into international databases. The comparison with these has already achieved first successes, insofar as some unique objects could be identified here in Graz. Further information about the project can be found here.
Bücherwelten
With "Bücherwelten", the Graz University Library presents a series of historical books and writings from the special collections. This is a selection from the large collection of old books, a florilegium - the older ones still have the word florilegium in their ears. The twenty-four chapters offer aspects from a colorful range of subject areas: Medicine, ancient natural history, plants and medicines, the history of technology, civil law, history, multilingualism and liturgical topics are all discussed, as is lexicography. Nevertheless, this is only a faint hint of what there is to discover in our library, which is over 400 years old. I would like to thank the editors for their initiative and the authors from the special collections for their commitment. We are delighted to be able to present this volume on the occasion of the Leipzig Book Fair 2023 with its focus on Austria.
