Freshers’ (first-semester students) checklist

1. How do I activate my library card, and where can I download the youni app?
Once you have activated your library card, you can use all of the university library's services.

2. How do I set up VPN access to the library?
You can use the VPN client to access the library's e-books, databases and electronic journals from home.

3. How can I find "my" library?
The university library has several locations - find out which one is best suited to your studies.

4. When is the university library open?
Each library location has different opening hours. You can always find the current hours online.

5. How can I find books and journals?
At unikat.uni-graz.at you will find our search portal, unikat, where you can search for physical and digital media, including books, essays, journals, newspapers, maps, DVDs, etc.

6. What is the textbook collection?
In the textbook collection, you will find the essential basic literature for your studies – we have several copies of many of the books, which you can borrow for up to 60 days. These books can only be borrowed by University of Graz students.

7. How can I suggest a book for the library to buy?
If you think we are missing important literature, you can easily submit a book suggestion. If the book is not available anywhere on campus, we will usually buy it. This does not cost you anything, and the book is reserved for you straight away.

8. How can I find the best study space in the library?
There are lots of different places to study in the reading rooms and study areas of our various libraries - try them out and find the one where you feel most comfortable!

9. What training courses and guided tours are on offer?
Our introductory courses and workshops will help you find your way around the library and quickly access the information you need. Simply check our website to find a date that suits you and sign up on the spot.

10. Where can I get help with my academic work?
Our subject librarians are here to assist you with research and answer your questions. You are also welcome to ask at the various information desks in the libraries.

11. Are there lockers in the library?
Yes, there are lockers at some locations where you can safely store your belongings. The RESOWI library will even let you have your own locker for a whole semester!
