Library card

Registration

The University Library provides its services not only to students, teachers and researchers, but also to the general public. To take full advantage of the library's services, you need a library card.

To obtain a free library card, you must register as a user. This will allow you to borrow media and access a variety of electronic resources.

You can register as a user via your business card in UNIGRAZonline:

  • Click on “Library” in the menu

  • Agree to the library regulations (PDF, in German)

Your UNIGRAZCard is also your library card. For more information, please see our video tutorial "Registration at the library (for students)" (in German).

You can also register for the libraries of the other Styrian universities via your business card if you want to - just click on “Library-Network” ("Bibliotheks-Verbund") in the menu.

If you have any problems registering, please contact the issue desk in the main library.

Registering for the Styrian library network entitles the user to borrow printed works from the participating libraries.

  • Register in your own campus system on your personal business card
  • Click on "Library network" in the menu
  • Select the libraries you want to register for

Your student or staff ID card is then also valid as a library card at the University of Graz. In case of problems, please contact the library of your home university.

Campus systems:

  • Medical University of Graz
  • Graz University of Technology
  • University of Music and Performing Arts
  • Montanuniversität Leoben

If you are at least 14 years of age and live in Austria, you can become an external library user.

  1. Fill in the form "Data collection form".
  2. Reply to the confirmation email and submit a portrait photo (JPG).
  3. Pick up your library card from the issue desk in the main library from 10 am on the next working day.
  4. Present a photo ID and your registration slip when you collect your card.
  5. Individuals under the age of 18 will need a declaration of liability (PDF) from a parent or guardian.

Former students or staff members who still have their UNIGRAZCard can continue to use it as a library card after reactivating it at the issue desk in the main library.

If you lose your library card

If you lose your library card, please have it suspended at the main library issue desk to prevent its misuse.

Change of contact details

For university employees, changes to personal contact information are made in UNIGRAZonline by the Human Resources Department or the Academic Affairs Department. External users should contact the issue desk in the main library.

Can’t log in to unikat after registering?

Students who already had a library card (with a $B number) must first have it cancelled at the main library issue desk to register successfully.
Staff who have previously used the library as students must first have their data merged at the main library issue desk to register successfully.
