Specifying your affiliation
for publications and research projects
Cutting-edge research is conducted at the University of Graz at an international level, and academic publications are of great importance. Publications in recognised journals and series increase the visibility of both their authors and the University of Graz. Authors can only achieve this by specifying their affiliation to ensure a clear link between themselves, their publications, and our university. This is the only way to guarantee that their achievements will be correctly attributed to them.
People who generate publications or carry out research projects as university employees or during a stay at the University of Graz are therefore called upon to adhere to the University of Graz guidelines for specifying an affiliation. This applies to all non-academic and academic staff (including doctoral students and visiting scholars) and to students.
It also applies to publications created during your time at the university but published after the termination of your stay/employment, e.g., the publication of your dissertation after the end of your employment contract.
Specifying your affiliation for publications
In addition to the University of Graz, you must specify your exact institutional affiliation for publications. When stating the individual levels, you start at the top and work downwards: university, faculty, institute, centre, department, etc. At a minimum, you must include the University of Graz and the name of your institute.

Digital identifiers for authors
ResearcherID or ORCID
Using one of these two digital identifiers for authors helps to improve data quality. Each author receives an identifier, which prevents incorrect attributions. It also allows them to create publication lists or find other authors. Creating a profile and keeping it up to date is recommended to ensure that publications are attributed correctly.
