External funding bodies
A brief overview of other funding options:
- Authors can apply to the FWF's "Independent Publications" program for funding to cover publication costs for a book, whether it is part of an FWF project or not. Funding is available for book publications and their simultaneous Open Access publication. Manuscripts undergo a peer review process, so they must be submitted early (before typesetting). Funding is applied for in modules. The maximum funding amount is €22,000.
- The Province of Styria aims, in particular, to support young scientists when funding scientific publications. If you are applying for funding for a printed publication, you must provide evidence that a purely online publication (Open Access) is not sufficient or is not conducive to career advancement. Deadlines for submissions come around twice a year.
- The Austrian Research Association (ÖFG) continues to fund the publication of work from all areas of scientific research. There are four deadlines for submission each year. Funding is awarded up to the amount of €2,000 per publication.
- Young scientists can apply to the City of Graz Kulturamt for financial support when publishing their theses, dissertations and habilitations.
