The Open Access publication fund is removing the previous funding limit of € 2000 for Open Access articles. With immediate effect, the fund will cover the Article Processing Charges (APC) entirely, which means that the institutes will no longer incur any costs. This measure is intended to promote Open Access publication further and significantly reduce the financial burden for the institutes and centres.
The decision not only removes financial hurdles to publishing but also simplifies the application process for authors. This development is expected to lead to increased participation by researchers in Open Access publishing and thus further strengthen the free exchange of scientific knowledge. The removal of the previous funding limit and the whole assumption of costs by the Open Access publication fund marks significant progress in the quest for greater openness and accessibility in the academic community.
