Die Stratter Bibel: ein kostbares Schwergewicht in Vintage-Technologie

Eine Nachlese aus dem Projekt Buchpatenschaften

Entstanden ist die 25kg schwere, kunstvoll ausgestaltete und prestigeträchtige Stratter Bibel als kostbares Hochzeitsgeschenk von Bernhard Rohr, dem Erzbischof von Salzburg, für seine Schwester Katharina. Es handelt sich hier um eine handschriftliche Abschrift eines bereits als Druck vorhandenen Textes: der deutschsprachigen Vollbibel aus der Druckwerkstatt des Johannes Mentelin, die im Jahr 1466 veröffentlicht wurde – also bereits Jahrzehnte vor der ersten gedruckten Luther-Übersetzung aus dem Jahr 1522. Erasmus Stratter und seine Mitschreiber haben jedoch in Mentelins Vorlage eingegriffen, indem sie verständlichere Wortersetzungen, dialektale Anpassungen und weitere Änderungen vorgenommen haben, wodurch der „Stratter Bibel“ ein eigener Stellenwert zugesprochen werden kann.
