DOI
Persistent identifiers for digital objects ensure that these remain permanently retrievable even if their online location changes.
In the fields of scholarly publications and research data, Digital Object Identifiers (DOI) have become the standard identifiers, while Handle and Uniform Resolve Names (URN) offer technically equivalent solutions. Many platforms and publishers assign DOIs for publications and data sets, which are also required by funders for publications based on project results. DOIs are also frequently used for bibliometric evaluations (publication analyses, altmetrics, etc.).
The University of Graz assigns URN for all documents in the institutional repository unipub and DOI for articles in Open Access journals published on unipub. After consultation, DOIs can also be registered for documents on other university platforms that meet the requirements of the DOI-Policy.
