FAQ

The Covid-19 traffic light is currently set to red

  • Please wear a mouth and nose protection in all circulation areas (at all information and circulation desks, stairs, the way to the sanitary facilities, etc.).
  • All reading areas will be closed from 17.11.2020 to 06.12.2020.
  • Please observe the usual hygiene rules (distance, sneezing etiquette, hand hygiene).

 

General Information

Which locations of the University Library are currently accessible?

Circulation desks at all library locations (main library, faculty and branch libraries) will remain open. Loaning is therefore still possible. Reading and study areas will be closed from 17.11.2020 until probably 06.12.2020.

Please note that only a limited number of persons may be present at the faculty and branch libraries at the same time, therefore you may only enter these library locations with a library basket. Keep your stay in the library as short as possible and research the required literature already at home. A contact tracing form must be filled out in the entrance area of these libraries.

What are the opening hours during this time?

The circulation desk of the main library and faculty library RESOWI is open Monday to Friday from 08:30 a.m. to 18:00 p.m.

All other faculty and branch libraries are open Monday to Friday from 09:00 a.m. to 13:00 p.m.

Can I currently have a library card issued?

Yes, it is possible to have a library card issued. Please fill out the form for preliminary registration (German only). You can pick up your library card at the circulation desk of the main library from 10 a.m. on the next workday. Required documents and further information can be found here.

At the moment it is not possible to have library cards issued for groups/school classes.

 

Which course offers of the University Library can I currently use?

Unfortunately there are no classroom courses offered at the moment. However, you can find course materials at https://ub.uni-graz.at/de/dienstleistungen/kursangebote-der-ub/ (German only).

In addition, we offer online tutorials which are continuously updated (German only).

 

What special rules of conduct are currently to be observed when entering the University Library?

All users have to wear a suitable face mask and keep a safety distance of 1.5 m from other users and staff.

We ask you to observe all necessary hygiene measures!

How do I currently get the literature I need for my studies or teaching?

The Circulation desks of all library locations (main library, faculty and branch libraries) remain open. Loaning is therefore possible.

Holdings from the closed stacks of the main library are ordered as usual via the search portal unikat.

Books from the open access holdings of the main library (including the textbook collection) are currently not freely accessible. Please contact the circulation desk of the main library if you need books from the textbook collection (see How can I currently use the textbook collections of the University of Graz Library?).

Open access holdings of the faculty and branch libraries are still accessible on the shelf as before, subject to the Covid-19 regulations.

For information on the holdings of the institutional libraries, please contact the respective institute.

The Graz University Library also offers a wide range of electronic resources such as e-books, e-journals and journal articles. These can be accessed via our search portal unikat, the Electronic Journals Library (EZB) or the Database Information System (DBIS).

Members of the University of Graz (students and staff) can access these electronic resources off campus via VPN connection.

If you need e-books that are not yet available online, please send us an aquisition request.

You can find the form at: https://ub.uni-graz.at/de/kontakt/ankaufsvorschlaege/. In the next step, please select the menu item „eCampus (Ankauf E-Book)“ and then fill out the form.

Please note that purchase proposals may also be rejected. Reasons for this could be, for example, that a work is not available as an e-book or access is not possible for licensing reasons, etc.

Unfortunately, general users and students of other universities and colleges cannot access licensed electronic resources. However, you can access electronically available theses and open access resources via our search portal unikat or the open access repository unipub.

 

Where can I return borrowed books?

Due items can be returned within the opening hours at the respective library location. Additionally, book return boxes are available at some locations.

 

How can I currently use the textbook collections of the University of Graz Library?

If you need books from the main library's textbook collection, you can come to the circulation desk and you can loan the books immediately.

The shelves and thus textbook collections at the faculty and branch libraries are freely accessible. The holdings can be used or loaned as usual.

Please note the applicable Covid19 measures when entering the university library.

 

How can I currently use the holdings of the faculty library RESOWI?

Currently the open access holdings at the RESOWI faculty library can be loaned by students, subject to compliance with the Covid19 measures.

Excluded are reference works, loose-leaf editions, journals and old stocks. However, these can be copied or scanned on site.

How can I pay outstanding reminder fees?

You can pay open reminder fees at the pay machine in the foyer of the main library during the opening hours.

 

Interlibrary Loan

Can I currently place an interlibrary loan order?

Interlibrary loan orders can be placed via the search portal unikat.

 

Reading and working places

Are reading and working places at the University Library available to me at the moment?

No, due to the current Covid-19 measures, all reading and working places will be closed from 17.11.2020 until probably 06.12.2020.

Can I currently print/scan/copy at the library?

Yes, multifunctional devices and book scanners are available at the locations of the University Library, subject to the current Covid-19 measures.

 

Electronic Resources

Which electronic resources of the University Library can I currently use?

The Graz University Library offers a wide range of electronic resources such as e-books, e-journals and journal articles. These can be accessed via our search portal unikat, the Electronic Journals Library (EZB) or the Database Information System (DBIS).

Members of the University of Graz (students and staff) can access these electronic resources off campus via VPN connection.

Unfortunately, this is not possible for general users and students of other universities and other colleges. However, you can access theses that are electronically available and open access resources via our search portal unikat or the open access repository unipub.

If you have different VPN profiles to choose from after installing the client, select the option "UniVPN UB Recherche" to get access to all electronic resources of the University Library.

A book that I urgently need is not available as an e-book. What can I do?

If you need e-books that are not available at the University Library, please send us a purchase proposal.

Our suppliers have been informed about the current situation and have promised to carry out the activations as soon as possible.
